Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran and Oman will sign an agreement on a joint shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, in the presence of Gulf Arab foreign ministers. Speaking to Indian media, he presents the planned signing as regional diplomatic efforts gather pace.
The proposed arrangement would allow vessels to enter through Iranian waters and leave largely through Omani waters, according to the Financial Times. Diplomats caution that fully reopening the strategic waterway would still require an agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Meanwhile, heavy clashes break out between Iranian security forces and unidentified gunmen in Saravan, in southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province. The Haalvsh rights group reports fighting in the Bakhshan area, while provincial authorities say an operation began around 4 a.m. and that members of the armed group have been killed or wounded, without providing figures.
