Iranian drones target Iraqi Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Barzani's office, security chief's home

Iran fired two drones into the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on Monday, targeting the private office of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and a senior local security official, the region's Counter-Terrorism Service said. The two Hadid-110 explosives-laden drones were launched from the border area with Iran overnight, according to the service.

The second drone struck the residence of the director of the Parastin intelligence agency in the Pirmam district of Erbil.

"Following an investigation by the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Unit, my personal office and the home of the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency were targeted by Iranian drone attacks earlier today," Barzani wrote on X. "This is a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region. These attacks will not deter us from carrying out our duties and protecting our citizens."

There were no reports of human casualties or major damage, according to the Counter-Terrorism Service.

Monday's strikes are the latest in a series of cross-border attacks that have intensified since the Iran war broke out in late February. Iran and its proxies inside Iraq have regularly targeted US troops and the consulate in Erbil, as well as infrastructure in the region. The incident also comes less than a week after the Counter-Terrorism Directorate reported that Coalition forces intercepted three explosive drones over Erbil early Friday morning.

Authorities in the Kurdistan Region have repeatedly warned that such attacks threaten both civilian security and the region's economic and energy infrastructure, and the repeated incidents have intensified calls for stronger air defense and counter-drone capabilities.
