US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and told aides he expected to resume bombing Iran after November’s midterm elections, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.

Tehran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks in exchange for Washington lifting its blockade of Iranian ports, easing sanctions on oil exports and releasing some frozen Iranian assets.

Negotiations continued through mediators, but Washington told Tehran it would not lift the blockade, according to the report. Trump privately doubted Iran would meet his demands, although officials said his position could change in the coming weeks.
