Iran says it is ready to negotiate its nuclear program if Washington lifts the sanctions

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said Monday that Tehran was ready to resume negotiations with Washington, particularly on its nuclear program, provided that the United States lifts its sanctions and abandons any policy of pressure.

"We are ready for dialogue," he assured in an interview with India Today. However, the Iranian leader insisted that discussions must be conducted within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and international law.

Massoud Pezeshkian also said Pakistan had already drawn up a draft agreement with Doha's support. He questioned the American willingness to restart the discussions from the beginning.

"The United States must lift its sanctions, abandon unilateralism, not speak to us through force, and allow us to live like the rest of the world," he said.

The Iranian president also said he did not know which of Donald Trump's statements should be considered the official position of Washington. He rejected responsibility for triggering the conflict, stating that Iran had "attacked no one" and had only acted in self-defense.

Donald Trump had stated that Iran wanted to reach an agreement quickly. The American president said he was open to the idea of new talks, while specifying that he would decide himself whether the United States should take part.
