Iran seizes US submersible drone, Pentagon confirms

Iran has captured a US submersible drone in the Striat of Hormuz, the Iranian Embassy in Ghana announced on Tuesday,

The embassy announced on X that it had captured "the most advanced ghost sub ever. Cutting-edge underwater AI, classified tech, the whole brochure."

The Pentagon confirmed the drone had been captured, but said following its capture that the drone had malfunctioned more than a day earlier.

The Pentagon added that the drone wasn't carrying any classified equipment or sensitive data.

Anduril confirmed the loss but downplayed its significance.

The Iranian embassy in Ghana mocked the US for sending advanced technology into a "strait controlled by people who can hear a shrimp sneeze."

The embassy claimed that it was easily captured "like a plastic bottle in a fishing net. Fully intact. Still blinking."

Despite the Pentagon's downplaying of the incident, it bears strong resemblance to Iran's capture of the RQ-170 drone in 2011. This was often seen as a turning point in Iranian drone development, including the infamous Shahed drones used in Ukraine.
