A drone launched from Iran crashed Thursday at the terminal of Nakhchivan International Airport in Nakhchivan, causing an explosion and significant material damage, according to regional media reports.

A second drone reportedly crashed near a school in the village of Shakarabad, injuring two people.

Following the incidents, authorities in Azerbaijan summoned the Iranian ambassador to the Foreign Ministry and warned that Baku reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures.

The events have raised fears that the conflict could spill into additional countries across the region. In response to growing aerial threats, several European governments are considering strengthening military assistance to Gulf states.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Italy plans to provide support aimed at bolstering the air-defense capabilities of Gulf countries. Rome expressed concern over the safety of its citizens and troops deployed in the region, as well as potential risks to energy security.

Meloni said the move would be coordinated with European partners including the United Kingdom, France and Germany. She added that Italy and its allies continue to respect existing bilateral agreements governing the possible use of United States military bases located on Italian territory.
