The base was destroyed following months of fighting in the area aimed at creating a security zone in southern Lebanon.

The IDF used over 1100 tons of explosives to destroy over 5.4 kilometres (3.4 miles) of tunnels under the ridge.

Israel’s National Geological Institute said its warning system detected a “seismic event” in the Southern Lebanon area, caused by the controlled explosion of Hezbollah’s underground complex at Ali Al-Taher ridge.

Before demolishing the base, the IDF cleared eight underground routes beneath the ridge, where it found dozens of weapons caches containing explosives, drones, and anti-tank missiles, as well as hundreds of mines and additional military equipment.

The IDF noted that during the fighting, Hezbollah operatives attempted to abandon the structure.

The IDF identified the base as the central command post for Hezbollah's Badr Unit, which is responsible for southern Lebanon.

The base itself was connected to the surrounding villages of Arnoun, Yohmor, and Tibnit, as well as Beaufort Ridge, through underground tunnels.
