Gaza recovery: Board of Peace unveils $2.45 billion six-month plan

The Board of Peace announced their six-month recovery plan for Gaza on Wednesday evening. The plan includes 66 fully costed programs that are projected to cost around $2.45 billion.

The programs are split into six major areas: Infrastructure Development, Human Development, Economic Acceleration, Digital Transformation, Legal, and Peace & Security.

Of these, the lions share of the funding will go to Infrastructure Development and Peace & Security.

One of the major infrastructure programs is aimed at replacing the large number of tents with insulated caravans as well as partially repairing homes.

Infrastructure development will also go toward clearing debris and unexploded ordnance as well as a number of other programs.

Peace & Security funding will go primarily to the construction of bases in Gaza, with the remainder going toward recruiting, equipping, and deploying the multinational International Stabilization Force (ISF) contingent and local police mobilization.

The majority of Human Development funding will go toward supporting the health system ith a smaller share going toward educational support.

Economic acceleration funding is focused on rebuilding the supply chain in Gaza and restoring food security, with an eye on rebuilding small and medium-sized businesses..

The plan also envisions a full digitization of Gaza’s administration and financial system, including a digital ID system for the government, restoring 4G coverage, and launching e-learning and e-health pilots. There are further plans for data centers and refocusing the Gaza economy around technology and data.

Finally, the Legal support, which receives the smallest share of funding, is largely focused on supporting the reestablishment of courts and the justice system.
