Saudi Arabia seeks UK military support against Houthi offensive - report
The UK has only approved the deployment of British military advisors to Saudi Arabia, but is considering more options
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering a range of requests from Saudi Arabia for military support against Houthi attacks, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
The UK fears that further Houthi control over the Bab el-Mandeb strait will have a “catastrophic” impact on international shipping and global oil prices, which would harm the UK economy just as the incoming Prime Minister wants to focus on reducing the cost of living.
However, Burnham is also concerned over being seen as supportive of Donald Trump's war against Iran, as UK public opinion is overwhelmingly against the war.
Currently, the UK has only approved the deployment of British military advisors to the Kingdom. This is despite Saudi requests for operational support to halt the Houthi blitz down the coast.
Both former UK prime ministers, Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer, provided more extensive support to Saudi Arabia against the Houthis.
