Trump names 'uncompromising' Stephen Miller chief of staff after midterm losses
Steve Bannon, a former Trump adviser, welcomed the appointment and described Miller as 'an uncompromising MAGA ideologue'

US President Donald Trump named longtime aide Stephen Miller as his White House chief of staff on Friday, three days after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.
Steve Bannon, a former Trump adviser, welcomed the appointment and described Miller as “an uncompromising MAGA ideologue” in an interview with Le Monde.
Miller, 41, will replace Susie Wiles on Monday. Trump announced the appointment on social media, calling Miller “one of my most trusted advisors” and praising Wiles for doing “an outstanding job.”
Miller, a proponent of broad presidential powers, takes the job as Trump faces a Democratic-led Congress and the prospect of congressional investigations. Trump said this week he was willing to work with Democrats, though several White House officials told Reuters that Miller’s appointment could signal a more confrontational approach.
As deputy chief of staff, Miller helped drive Trump’s immigration crackdown and set a target of 3,000 immigration arrests a day.
