Trump allies blame Iran war for GOP midterm losses; officials say team changes possible - report

People close to President Donald Trump are blaming the Iran war for widespread Republican losses on Tuesday night, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The war, which Trump launched alongside Israel in February, has stretched on for more than eight months with no end in sight and has contributed to soaring energy prices.

Some White House officials and Republican allies called the war misguided and said the midterms would have looked very different if the conflict had wrapped up months ago.

'Finger-pointing' is underway inside the administration, with some officials saying Trump might consider changes to his team, while some advisers are telling him his legacy will be forever intertwined with the war.

Trump says he will accept midterm results and work with Democrats; blames GOP losses on his absence from the ballot - report

President Donald Trump told the New York Times overnight that he would accept the results of the midterm elections and was prepared to work with Democrats.

“I am absolutely willing to accept those results,” he said, adding: “We’ll work with the Democrats, and we’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out.”

Trump blamed Republican losses on the fact that he was not on the ballot and said he had no regrets about endorsing candidates such as Sen. Darline Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

His comments came as Democrats are on track to take control of the House and the Senate, with both Graham and Paxton having lost their respective races.

Democrats have taken majority control of the US Senate after Adam Hamilton won in Kansas and Turek won in Iowa.

Hamilton, a Democrat, defeated Republican incumbent Roger Marshall, who was seeking a second term after winning in 2020.

A first-time candidate, Hamilton is a prominent United Methodist pastor and author who has pledged to bridge partisan divides.

Turek defeated Republican House Rep. Ashley Hinson in the Iowa Senate race.
