SpaceX founder Elon Musk praised Israel’s approach to security and border protection during a podcast interview on Thursday, amid mass protests across Europe.

Musk said Israel’s policies reflected its experience of repeated attacks by neighboring countries and the need to prevent people intent on violence from entering its territory.

“ The neighboring countries have tried to destroy Israel several times,” he said, adding that Israelis understand the danger of admitting people who intend to attack them.

He described Israel’s approach as pragmatic, saying the country takes steps to prevent such threats from materializing. Musk also emphasized that many Muslims are reasonable, while warning about Islamist extremism in the West.

His remarks followed an interview earlier this week in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told i24NEWS that French authorities had failed to prepare adequately for the threat of radical Islam and had effectively surrendered to it.

French President Emmanuel Macron rejected that characterization, dismissing claims that France had been overrun by immigrants and Islamists as entirely untrue.
