Israel's elections are being closely monitored abroad, where many media outlets describe the vote as one of the most important in recent decades.

Why the entire Middle East is watching Israel's election
Why the entire Middle East is watching Israel's election

At the center of the coverage: the political future of Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as the possible consequences of the vote on security, war, and regional balances.

CNN presented the election as a new "referendum" on the Netanyahu, recalling that this is the first national ballot organized since the October 7, 2023 attack.

They emphasized that voters must decide not only on whether Netanyahu should remain in power, but also on how the country has been governed since the outbreak of the war and on issues such as the conscription of the Ultra-Orthodox.

The New York Times chose a broader angle, focused on the country’s political identity and the opposition between two visions of Israel. The paper looked into the weight of religious nationalism and the debates surrounding the West Bank, while remaining cautious about the outcome of the election.

The British press is also closely following the battle between Netanyahu’s Likud party and the opposition led by Gadi Eisenkot. The BBC emphasized security issues and the questions raised by October 7, while several British media outlets are focusing on the possibility of a change in the country's leadership.

In Italy, Corriere della Sera adopted a strictly factual approach, presenting the main candidates and recalling the rules of the Israeli electoral system.

The election is also attracting significant attention in the Arab world. The Saudi daily Asharq Al-Awsat highlights the divisions caused by October 7 and is closely monitoring the possible consequences of the outcome on various regional fronts.

Sky News Arabia, Al-Arabiya, Al-Hadath, Al-Jazeera, and several other Arabic-language channels have scheduled continuous coverage of election day. The vote is being closely monitored due to its implications for Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.

From one media outlet to another, the perspectives differ, but one observation prevails: this election far exceeds the sole question of the composition of the next Knesset. For a large part of the international press, it above all represents a decisive test for Benjamin Netanyahu and for the political direction Israel intends to take after three years of war.
