Israel: Targeted fuel depots in Tehran supplied Iranian military, not civilians
The strikes were carried out with precision and aimed specifically at infrastructure supporting Iran’s military capabilities while attempting to minimize harm to civilians
Israeli officials said Sunday that fuel depots and oil infrastructure struck the previous day in Tehran were used directly by the Iranian armed forces, particularly by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to the officials, the targeted facilities played a key role in supplying energy and logistical support to Iran’s military apparatus.
The officials said Iran’s armed forces rely heavily on fuel refined at domestic oil facilities to sustain military operations. The infrastructure targeted in the strikes is believed to support weapons production as well as research and development activities, in addition to providing fuel for military bases and command centers.
In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said it carried out strikes on refining facilities and fuel depots in Tehran on March 7 with the aim of disrupting the operational capabilities of the Iranian military and hindering the development of new weapons systems. According to the IDF, the fuel stored at the sites was officially designated for supply to Iran’s armed forces.
The military said the operation involved targeted and precise strikes aimed specifically at components linked to military activity, while efforts were made to minimize the risk of harm to civilians.

Israeli officials also stressed that the Revolutionary Guards are a core component of Iran’s armed forces and therefore their infrastructure and logistical resources are considered legitimate military targets within the framework of the current conflict.
The strikes were carried out as part of Operation “Roaring Lion,” an ongoing Israeli campaign targeting military installations and infrastructure associated with the Iranian regime. Israeli authorities have repeatedly said the operation is directed at Iran’s military capabilities rather than the Iranian population.
According to Israeli officials, the campaign aims to weaken Iran’s military threat and limit its ability to conduct attacks in the region while contributing to broader regional stability. The IDF confirmed earlier that it had struck multiple fuel depots used by Iranian armed forces, saying the facilities are regularly used to supply military infrastructure and distribute fuel to various military organizations across the country.
