A Syrian source close to the regime told i24NEWS that Israel's strikes on Abu al-Duhur military airbase on Tuesday would only increase Turkey's involvement in Syria.

"We do not want any foreign forces on our land, but Israel must understand that the more it threatens Syria, the more the Syrian government will align itself with Turkey. The Israeli government is getting the opposite result of what it hopes to achieve," the Syrian source said.

Israel admitted to launching the strikes on Syria claiming that Syria was on the verge of violating the agreed security status quo between the two countries.

"If Israel genuinely wants security and stability in southern Syria, it should stop its aggression against Syrian territory, as this would inevitably push Damascus to seek greater military cooperation with Ankara in order to guarantee its own security," the source said.

The source continued that stating that "Signing a security agreement between Damascus and Tel Aviv," was the best path for "comprehensive regional peace."

The source indicated that as long as the current government maintained its "aggressive policies" towards Syria that any security agreement would have to be postponed "until a new government is formed in Israel. Netanyahu’s fall is only a matter of weeks."

"We are confident that Israel will withdraw from the Syrian territories it occupied after the fall of Assad, and that Sweida will return to Syrian sovereignty."

The source emphasized that Syria had taken no aggressive actions against Israel and would not allow Syrian territory to be used "to threaten Israel’s security or its citizens." He reiterated "Damascus’s desire for de-escalation and for reaching a security agreement."

Syria accuses Israel of strikes: Damascus calls airbase attack 'dangerous escalation'

US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack told i24NEWS earlier today that there was a real risk of "rapidly escalating to a direct military confrontation between Israel and Turkey, as well as with Syria."

He revealed that Turkish troops were unaware that an Israeli strike was incoming and that the US was "relieved that no lives were lost and that the situation did not escalate.”
