There was a blue wave on Wednesday, with Democrats taking control of both the House and the Senate in the US midterm elections. In one of the more contentious races Democrat Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan’s US Senate race early Wednesday, becoming the first Muslim elected to the US Senate after one of the most contentious contests of the midterm elections. El-Sayed, 41, a progressive, defeated Republican Mike Rogers, a former FBI agent and congressman

Meanwhile, following Israel’s elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused leaders of the left-wing bloc of pursuing a narrow minority government dependent on “supporters of terrorism” while setting conditions that would block a broad national government. He also called for a swift investigation into alleged foreign funding aimed at influencing Israel’s election results, saying: “We must uncover the full truth—without any whitewashing and without delay.” READ MORE FROM WEDNESDAY

Iran’s IRGC says two tankers and a tugboat caught fire in Strait of Hormuz after using “unauthorized routes”

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said two oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire in separate incidents after attempting to use unauthorized routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC said one tanker struck a mine while attempting to cross a passage south of the strait and another one caught fire while exiting the route in the eastern part of the waterway.

A tugboat that approached the second vessel to help extinguish the fire also caught fire, the IRGC said.

Pentagon in “uncertainty” after midterm losses; Iran war fallout raises questions over who Trump will hold accountable - report

Senior Pentagon officials were confronted Wednesday by how the unpopular Iran war spelled disaster for the Trump administration in the midterms, as Democrats seized power in Congress and questions arose over whether President Donald Trump will hold someone accountable, The Washington Post reported.

This report follows a scathing rebuke of the war by Vice President JD Vance in which he blamed the Iran war for Republican midterm losses in a lengthy social media post

The post was followed by questions at the Pentagon over whether Trump will hold someone accountable.

Democrats immediately set their sights on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, but people close to the administration questioned whether Trump might instead dismiss Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, or Adm. Brad Cooper, who has overseen the war.

People familiar with the military advice given to Trump said that at different times all three men gave him overly rosy assessments and were not clear enough about the risks and costs to the United States.
