The IDF and Shin Bet claim that Hamas is using Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, to conduct interrogations, carry out acts of torture and reinforce its control over the population.

In a joint statement, the two Israeli agencies said they have intelligence indicating that Hamas has intensified the activities of its security apparatus amid what they describe as declining support for the group among Gaza residents.

According to the IDF and Shin Bet, Hamas’ Internal Security Forces and military intelligence are conducting interrogations on the second floor of the Yassin building, located in the hospital’s outpatient consultation area. The group is also allegedly using parts of the hospital complex for activities unrelated to medical care, including interrogations, torture and extortion.

The statement described Nasser Hospital as “a central military infrastructure” for Hamas in southern Gaza. It said patients and medical staff regularly witness Hamas operatives, some of them masked, in different areas of the hospital compound.

The IDF and Shin Bet also alleged that another facility within the complex, previously used as hospital offices, a cafeteria and later as a prayer room, has been converted into a Hamas interrogation center.

Hamas’ presence and activities inside the hospital create an atmosphere of fear and put patients, doctors and other medical personnel at risk.

The agencies said the alleged use of civilian infrastructure for security and military purposes is part of a broader pattern by Hamas. They characterized the use of hospitals for such activities as a violation of international law, which restricts the military use of protected medical facilities.

The IDF also warned Gaza residents that Hamas, fearing a loss of control over the territory, is allegedly using hospitals, schools and other civilian facilities for its own purposes, placing civilians at risk in locations intended to provide essential services.
